Madinat Makadi – 10th

Sometimes the key elements of an image come together in a wonderful moment of good fortune and glorious serendipity. When this happens, the resulting photograph can take on greater significance and, in some ways, grandeur than had been planned. It’s fortuitous and exhilarating when it happens, and terribly deflating when it doesn’t.

In this case, I was on the first day of the shoot and was really just feeling my way around the property when I decided not to go straight out on the course but to find a vantage point up on the roof of the resort’s hotel. Despite arousing interest from the security guards and being a bit cool, I took this image of the 10th hole at Madinat Makadi just as the sun made its presence known.

For me, it’s the combination of colour and perspective that attracts the eye. I like how the strategy of the hole is suitably highlighted but also how the mountain range gives the shot a sense of place as well as stunning background.
