Royal Troon – 17th

In many ways, this shot of Royal Troon on the west coast of Scotland isn’t ideal – the flag, for instance, isn’t immediately recognizable. It does, however, show the importance of photographing at ground level. This is a testing par three with no real elevated vantage points around it. There could be an argument for a drone shot but this would flatten out the topography draining the image of the essence of the hole. Rather, the difficulty of running the ball up the front of the green is clearly visible and all the bunkers – and their steep faces – are featured.
