“The idea around this year’s Open Studios is to incorporate a range of imagery that covers a number of styles and subjects, including, but not exclusively, the Lomond Hills. To do this, I have travelled around Fife to find unusual vantage points and capture images using fantastic light. The idea was to create pictures that show some of the beauty of this area. I wanted to find unique perspectives, but strangely many of the views were first registered while travelling on well-trodden paths such as school runs. Others were more out-of-the-way. This one is a more intimate.
I wanted to capture the texture of the East Lomond and needed high contrast light to do it. So, unusually for me, I opted for the November midday sun to provide the perfect conditions. The angle of the sun also provided a shaft of light that ran counter to the slope of the hill and the shape of the cloud. As always, the light was just as important as the landforms.”
