Senior moment

For me, this year’s Seniors Open was over in a flash. I remember picking up my accreditation on Monday and noting the healthy interest being shown in the players’ practice rounds. And how could I forget meeting Bernhard Langer at the Old Course Hotel for the presentation of the EIGCA Harry Colt award. A couple of brief sessions followed on the 1st, 17th and 18th holes (see pics), and then it was done.

Tom Watson had come close, but Miguel Ángel Jiménez excelled in the changeable conditions. With wind, rain, sun and glorious blue skies, the Old Course had proved a sterling test that could delight, tantalise and confound given half a chance. If nothing else, it showed that the ‘auld boys’ and the Old Lady could still put on a show.

With deadlines looming and the ever-present pressures of the school holidays playing their part, it would have been nice to share in the nostalgia for a little longer. Here’s hoping Royal Lytham can similarly turn back the clock next year!
